Update 0.2
Cast Iron Warbot » Devlog
With the game jam drawing to a close, I've been given back control of the page and have uploaded a new version of Cast Iron Warbot. For now it only contains a few minor bug fixes and additions.
Bug/minor fixes
- The laser tunnel was almost impossible to complete due to the door's reset code being added to the second checkpoint instead of the first one, thereby making it reset if the player died before grabbing the second checkpoint. Since the buttons and collectors in the room were one use only, the bools in the door couldn't be changed again making it impossible to open. This has been corrected and I'm sorry to everyone who fell victim to it. My bad.
- Several of the text pop-ups were easy to miss because they didn't stop the game, so now they pause the game when active.
- I made it clearer that text can be advanced by adding a little arrow in the corner to indicate that the text is done.
- Long hand names for input abbreviated.
- Blocks sometimes wouldn't break. I believe I've fixed this one, but let me know if you have any trouble.
- Heat gauge empties slightly quicker.
- Prismatic Energy Collectors are now more noticeable.
- Lasers have a charge up noise and only fire once the noise is done.
- Additionally, the lasers charge up color change now only applies to the white parts of their design.
Additions
- There is now a vent button. Press it while holding still and you'll completely empty the heat gauge.
- The laser tunnel was a little laggy for one of my play testers, so I added a wide laser (currently nicknamed the "Energy Cascade Laser") to reduce the lag.
- I've laid the framework for further advancements. IE: More battery power, more heat gauge and an upgrade that reactivates the inertial dampeners. They're currently unused, but will be added in later.
- Vines will now have random variation.
- Interactive chains have been added. They're purely decorative, but have been added to a few levels.
- Lasers now have a continuous fire mode.
- I've added three new blocks related to the lasers:
- The prism block takes in three separate lasers and combines them into a "Particle Beam" that blocks lasers but not the player. This has been added to the laser tunnel to add an easier way to finish the level.
- The reflector block reflects lasers at a 90 degree angle. These aren't in any levels, but are in the game.
- Glass blocks. These are mostly for the tile layer, but they're blocks that block the player, but not lasers.
Anyway, that's it for this update. See you all next update.
